The Sticky Stuff

There are many people speculating on what this stuff could be from sunscreen to maple syrup whatever it is, it's ruining baseball. Baseball is still fun but less exciting as it used to be, arguably the most exciting its been was the steroid era because the offensive numbers were way up. Not everyone in that era was on the roids but the era as a whole is forever known as such. The problem with todays era is that the "steroid" is a foreign substance that increases spin rates on pitches making it harder for hitters and overall decreasing the offensive numbers. Rob Manfred is also not helping anything about the situation, by letting the Astros players off for their cheating scandal it creates a place where it is okay to cheat. The prime example is Gerrit Cole whose spin rate dropped and allowed 5 ER (earned runs) is his last start and was interviewed today seeming flustered and unprepared for questions about the sudden change in performance. Cole was also on that Astros team who was caught for cheating, let us not forget that. On June 9th the league announced that they will be "cracking down" on use of foreign substances used by pitchers, but what does it mean? Are the umpires going to act like TSA agents and pat the players down and search for them? Are the umpires going to pause games every time there is a pitching change and make the games longer? Rob Manfred will not be having any of the latter, his main goal is to shorten the game at all costs even if that means ruining the integrity of the game. As fans of the game lets just hope his stint as commissioner doesn't last to much longer, because the longer he's there the worse it's going to get.
