As a Panthers fan, the news today is very disappointing, but it isn't as bad as it could be. For the whole offseason so far it seemed like Carolina would be able to take Deshaun Watson away from Houston. It seemed like a done deal, until today when they traded for Sam Darnold, the Jets starter from last season. The only reason it wasn't the worst thing that could of happened is that we kept all of our first round picks for the foreseeable future. The trade officially was this years sixth round pick and next years second and fourth for Darnold. In his defense, he's only 23 and he has shown signs of potential. It just doesn't feel like the right move to make this year when you have the eighth pick in a loaded quarterback draft. Anyway you look at it the move is confusing and disappointing but with four years left of "control" with Darnold it matches up with Matt Rhule's contract. I hope head coach Rhule can pull something out and make a run this season and hopefully get at least a third round pick for Teddy Bridgewater.
