For context: Demaurice Smith is the head of the NFL players union and Roger Goodell is the Commissioner of the NFL, they aren't supposed to like each other.
Smith works for and is voted in by the players and Goodell works for and is voted on by the owners. They are supposed to work against each other and fight for different things but the only this Smith has fought for is his job. Of all the sports Demaurice Smith has the longest contract, 10 years, of anybody at his position. He has also overstayed his welcome, He writes his own report cards of how he does, and if somebody digs to deep they lose their positions and credibility.
I have never liked Goodell as commissioner, except during he 2020 draft when he let loose and showed us as fans some real personality, but Smith makes him look like a saint. Smith is fully taking advantage of his position and is siding with the owners at every turn to stay on their good sides. I know no one likes talking about how much players make, but if you read this far just bear with me. The "middle wage" players are gone, and what I mean by that is you are either making League minimum or you are breaking the bank of the owners. Starting quarterbacks are either making 25+ million or are still on their rookie deals, you don't have a starter at 12 million anymore. We need the middle player to come back but that can't happen with Smith in his position.
