Minnesota made it clear that they wanted Justin Fields in this years draft before the Bears ultimately moved up to select the Ohio State QB. They ended up taking Mond with the second pick of the third round, one pick before the Texans who wanted Mond but ended up with David Mills. With Kirk Cousins having two years left on his deal and the last year being very easy to move on from, Kellen Mond could be the Vikings starting QB by the 2022 season. The Texas A&M quarterback has the intangibles to be a franchise QB and he just needed a team to give him a chance. I like Kellen Mond on the field and would welcome him on my team but he isn't ready yet. The worst case scenario would be if ironman Kirk Cousins gets hurt and the Vikings have to rush Mond onto the field. I see him as a Patrick Mahomes prospect, by that I mean he needs to sit a year and learn from a veteran to help with his decision making skills, and Kirk is a good player to learn from.
