The league has been trying to make kickoffs safer for years now but have just made it less watchable. With over 80% of kickoffs ending as a touchback it seems pointless. We also peaked at the play with Devin Hester, the greatest return man of all time, making it look easy. I have a simple solution to this predicament and it’s quite simple. Don’t have a commercial in between the extra point and kickoff and make the kickoff touchdown worth more points, installing this rule would either make the kicking team ensure a touchback to occur ultimately making it completely irrelevant or you make the return team try and return it no matter how deep the kick went into the endzone.
