Last week Correa signed a mind-boggling contract. It was a 3 year $105 million dollar deal that would give him $35 million a year. However, there is a player option after this season and next season so that means he can leave the Twins after any season. Personally I've never seen a contract like this so it can mean a few different things. One being that Correa doesn't want to actually play for the Twins but they had the best contract offer in terms of opt-outs and value. Two, the team he wants to play for long term doesn't have the financial stability to support a mega-contract Correa deserves. The third theory I have is that he knows something us normal fans do not, that being a team willing to go "all in" sometime in the near future and Correa just needs to be ready. An example being last winter when the Padres dished out a Billion dollars worth of contracts for guys like Tatis, Hosmer, and Manny Machado. Sure that experiment didn't pan out last season but the Padres are set up for the future and another team could do that as soon as next winter.
