This 130+ year rivalry adds another chapter to the book when the Red Sox travel to the Bronx for a winner-take-all one game series. The winner of the game goes on to face the AL East champs the Tampa Bay Rays. Whichever team wins tonight will travel to Tampa on Thursday. New York will start Gerrit Cole on the mound while Boston will start Nathan Eovaldi. Cole is the Yankees highest paid play and highest paid Pitcher in MLB history while Eovaldi is the Sox second pitcher in the rotation. The decision was made with Chris Sale being out for most of the season and Eovaldi being the workhorse. Besides the pitching both teams boast huge matchups in the field, Boston has JD Martinez while New York has Giancarlo Stanton, two huge bats smack dab in the middle of the lineups. The Yankees are favored in this game but only slightly, so we are in for a treat tonight.
As for the other matchup on Wednesday we have the St Louis Cardinals traveling to LA to face the 106-win Dodgers. Despite being a wildcard team, the Dodgers are favorites to win the World Series, so the odds makers are giving St Louis a slim to none chance on winning this game. However, the Cards have been hot having won 17 in a row and 21 out of 25 since September 8th. The winner goes on to face the 107-win Giants in San Francisco on Friday. The Cards will send out Adam Wainwright while the Dodgers will send Max Scherzer to mound, the clear edge here goes to LA, but Waino has had his fair share of postseason gems. This game will come down to the bats, while both teams have pretty solid lineup 1 through 8. The team batting average for both teams ended up at .244, but LA had 39 more Home Runs this season. Vegas says the Dodgers have a 71% chance to advance but lets hope for St Louis to pull the upset.
