The Texans have fired David Culley after just one season and giving him nothing to work with. Deshaun Watson hasn’t played all season after holding out and having legal issues. This team is in total disarray but is only a couple of pieces away from getting on the right track. Here are some of my top candidates for the head coaching opening. Each of these candidates have a chance of keeping Deshaun Watson happy and on the roster for the 2022 season with hopes of him playing for the Texans.
5. Lovie Smith, the only in house hire available that wouldn’t receive a lot of backlash. Lovie Smith is an established name in the head coaching sphere and helped this team not be last in every defensive metric.
4. Byron Leftwich, the coach who helped lead Tom Brady and the Bucs to the number one offense in the league this season and helped Brady himself have his second-best statistical season of his career at 44 years old.
3. Jim Caldwell, a coach who should have not been fired from his previous two jobs and hasn’t had one since but deserves one mightily. Caldwell helped lead Stafford to his best statistical seasons and led the Lions to 2 playoff berths.
2. Eric Bieniemy, the Chiefs offensive coordinator for the past few seasons doesn’t need much of an explanation. He has helped lead the best offense over the past three seasons combined to 2 superbowl berths and an AFC championship loss.
1. Brian Flores, he should be the Texans number one priority this offseason and I also believe his surprise firing is the reason they fired Culley. Flores was the main reason Watson wanted to be traded to the Dolphins and if Houston is able to hire Flores I firmly believe Watson will play for Houston for 2022 and beyond.
