Who Should Be The Next Head Coach Of The Jacksonville Jaguars?

Just 13 games into the Urban Meyer era it ended abruptly. That made many media personalities take victory laps over his firing. But now the search begins for the next head coach, hopefully one that will last at least the whole 2022 season. Let’s take a look at my top 5 candidates:

5. Eric Bieniemy, the Chiefs offensive coordinator. Bieniemy has been a head coaching candidate each of the past 3 years but hasn’t been offered a job. The reason I have him at 5 and not higher is that I believe he doesn’t want to leave KC. He has a nice cozy job there with Mahomes and Kelce at his fingertips. I also believe he would be the next Head Coach there once Andy Reid retires.

4. Todd Bowles, the Buccaneers defensive coordinator. Bowles has been a life long defensive coach other than a four-year stint as the New York Jets head coach. The Jets won 5 or less games in three of those seasons resulting in his firing after the fourth season. However, he is a spectacular defensive coordinator, but that might not be what Jacksonville needs.

3. Doug Pederson, former Eagles Head Coach. This superbowl winning coach took the season off from football so he is fresh. He made Carson Wentz better than expected and only got fired because the team was going in another direction.

2. Jim Caldwell, former Lions Head Coach. Caldwell should have never been fired from the Detroit job and the records prove that to be true. He led the Lions to their last winning season and last playoff appearance. Caldwell coached a stat freak in Matthew Stafford to his best season as a Lion and could do the same with Trevor Lawrence.

1.Byron Leftwich, Buccaneers offensive coordinator and former Jaguars QB. The obvious choice for many reasons but the most important is that he is a players coach. He has also coached Tom Brady the past two seasons and has picked up good work habits from their tenure together. Jacksonville needs someone who is all in for Jacksonville and all in on Trevor Lawrence.
