Rob Manfred has announced that if and when the 2022 MLB season is played, it will be played with the DH in both leagues. If you don’t know DH stands for designated hitter, that player would be able to bat at any spot in the lineup without having to play in the field. The DH usually replaced the pitcher in the hitting lineup allowing the pitcher to focus on pitching. This rule change eliminates the use of a quality manager in the dugout because the only thing he would have to worry about is when to change the pitcher once he gets to his pitch count or loses his “stuff”. There will be less pinch-hit situations resulting in a more stagnant game. The universal DH also damages the integrity of the game leading to less substitutions and lessens the intensity of the ninth inning. Manfred has been the worst commissioner in baseball history and I don’t expect his tenure to ever improve.
