As few people know, because it seems no one is watching baseball anymore, the fifth no-hitter of the season was thrown last night by Tigers pitcher Spencer Turnbull. There has been six if the MLB would acknowledge Madison Bumgarner's No-hitter that he threw in a 7-inning double header game. With that being said the record for no-hitters in one season is eight and we are over halfway there a quarter of the way into the season. The record is from the 1884 season but three times in the modern era there has been seven. 1990 and 1991, then the steroid boom happened, then in 2012. We are on pace for 19 this season which poses the question, is the no-hitter getting stale? I say no, it's just another blip like 2012 was when "experts' were asking the same question. In most instances 310 occurrences of a single thing makes the feat less special but when every team plays 162 games most seasons and the sport is almost 150 years old I think it's pretty cool. But the Mariners do need to get it together and stop letting it happen to them.
