As we all know the Russell Westbrook experiment in LA isn’t working out. The Lakers want to compete, but they have been benching Westbrook late in games for Stanley Johnson, who was a free agent to start the year. Russell also comes with a huge price tag of $44 million in cap. This year we have seen a ton of reunions Cam Newton went back to Carolina, Lance Stephenson signed back with the Pacers, so why not trade Russell Westbrook back to OKC? It makes a ton of sense, Westbrook’s contract expires after next season, the Thunder are not planning on contending any time soon and they have a bunch of assets they could send to LA. The fans will be stoked to go to games in OKC with Russell back in a Thunder jersey. However, OKC needs to make sure they don’t trade away their future just for this stunt. They need to keep Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Josh Giddey at all costs. This move opens up $44 million in cap space for the Lakers which they can use to acquire another asset at the deadline to help them contend. At worst these two teams could bring in third and/or fourth team to make the trade worth it for everyone.
