From Ed Reed to Troy Polamalu, we have seen some fantastic safeties play this amazing game. The best safeties play anywhere from 10-14 years in the league and about 6 years after retirement these players get inducted into the hall of fame. One player did not get to do that, not because of the organization he played for or because he didn’t get the notoriety. No, it’s because in 2007 he died protecting his family from an armed robber. His name was Sean Taylor, and many people know his name but not many people appreciate him the way we should. He was on pace to be the greatest safety we’ve ever seen. This weekend the Washington Football Team retired his number on short notice for nothing more than a Public Relations stunt. Taylor became the third player to have his number retired for this infamous franchise and the first since the 80’s. Yesterday Washington hosted Kansas City for the retirement ceremony, a bad choice considering how good KC is, but I digress. Sean Taylor deserves his number be lifted into the rafters and there is an argument to send him into the pro football hall of fame for his short career, but you know what he doesn’t deserve, the little brother of the opposing QB doing TikToks on his number painted on the sideline.
