Midseason MVP

The NBA all-star weekend has concluded and that means the MVP race has started to ramp up. The oddsmakers list Joel Embiid as the odds-on favorite with Nikola Jokic hot on his tail, but what if I told you the oddsmakers were wrong. The MVP award has been turned into the best player award instead of the most valuable to their team. If you remember last season around this time Embiid led the MVP race just like this season, but Jokic ended up winning in the end. At the start of this season Embiid was the frontrunner again. He got hurt and Durant became the frontrunner. Then Durant got hurt and Curry became the frontrunner. Then Curry had a slide in performance and Embiid took back the top spot. The reason I’m laying this out for you guys is that no one really knows who is going to be on the top after a long 82 game season and it doesn’t matter who the frontrunner is until after the all-star break. This season Jokic is the clear MVP in my eyes. The Nuggets stink when he is out and are a top 4 team in the west when he plays. Unlike Embiid, Jokic is a durable player who spreads the ball around and helps his team win. Is Jokic keeps up this play he should win his second consecutive MVP award, but if he doesn’t I actually think Giannis Antetokounmpo should win it for what he does night in and night out.
