After an abysmal performance on Monday night from Jalen Hurts many people in Philadelphia are starting to give up on him. Since the Eagles took Hurts in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft the people of Philly had been clamoring for him to start since his arrival, which is the ultimate reason Wentz was traded. With Doug Pederson at the helm, it seemed inevitable Hurts would be the long-time starter there but after his firing it wasn’t so clear. The Eagles brought in a whole new staff led by head coach Nick Sirianni the former Colts offensive coordinator. He brought with him a more statuesque offensive style suited for someone opposite of Jalen Hurts, and more like Philip Rivers. So far this season the Eagles have underachieved starting 1-2 but Philly is a brutal market. A 1-2 start is not good enough for a fanbase with superbowl aspirations. Jalen Hurts willed them to victory in week 1 against Atlanta but their only win is against a 0-3 Giants team. Week 2 was a better showing but they lost to a depleted 49ers team. Needless to say, the fans aren’t very happy, but they should focus on their new head coach rather than their QB. Sirianni needs to take the blame for not using Hurts’ full potential and the team around him. They have the reigning Heisman winner and a runner-up one year removed and not to mention an elite tight end room. The thing that is succeeding for the Eagles is their stellar defensive scheme mixed with their great D-line. Let’s hope they stay healthy and competitive.
