Injuries in the Desert

Kyler Murray is clearly the real deal down in Arizona. He had his team at a record of 7-0 before losing on a Thursday night against the Green Bay Packers. A game in which one of his pro bowl receivers seemed to forget he was playing football which led to a game losing interception. Their other star receiver Deandre Hopkins missed over 50% of the offensive snaps in that game with a hamstring injury that has kept him out since. During the last play of the game Kyler Murray seemed to sprain his ankle after a tackle, an injury which has kept him sidelined as well. The team has played two games since, the first was a “all hands-on deck” kind of game where they scored 4 rushing touchdowns and blow out the 49ers. The second game was the opposite, the Panthers came to town with a new sense of urgency after signing Cam Newton back to the squad. They fell behind early and Colt McCoy got injured which led to a 31-10 loss. The Cardinals are set to play Seattle this Sunday and hope to have Murray back for the first time in three weeks, but I think he should rest that ankle for one more game because the bye week is right after this week’s game, a winnable game without Murray. Seattle looked putrid against Green Bay last week putting up a staggering 0 points for the first time in Russell Wilson’s career. I say give Murray and Hopkins the next two weeks to rest during a week where you can’t lose positioning to your NFC West foes. Then after that you hope they stay healthy and fight for a top seed in the playoffs.
