Dak Prescott might be the most intriguing free agent this offseason. Coming off of an ankle injury that sidelined him back in week 5 there are a few questions about his health but most teams will lean towards upside more than the down. The Cowboys have the ability to franchise tag him but Dak has expressed he wants a long term deal, as he has since before the 2019 offseason. Meanwhile the Cowboys have decided to overpay for other positions like runningback and wide receiver while neglecting that Dak is the heart and soul of the team.
If the Cowboys would have paid him back in 2019 they could've saved about 100 million dollars because of the rise in market value at the position. 35 million a year for 4 years is what he was looking for back then and now he wants upwards of 40 million and a longer deal. Dak would be worth 45+ over the next 7 years but the Cowboys seem to not think so and are okay paying him 33 million from the franchise tag.
If he hits the open market a bidding war would break out in the salary capped sport and could cripple whatever franchise signs him, except the Cowboys. Jerry jones needs to open his checkbook and write whatever Dak wants on it because if Jerry doesn't the Cowboys will have to rebuild and be bad for another 20 years. Jerry wants a Lombardi trophy and Dak is the only quarterback that can lead Dallas there in the foreseeable future.
