Closer Than We Think?

The Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer has made it abundantly clear that Trevor Lawrence is not guaranteed the starting role in Jacksonville, making it a Quarterback competition. Trevor has not made it abundantly clear that he is a lock for that week 1 start either. Based off of his play this preseason I would argue that any decent backup would be able to outduel him for the spot, however Gardner Minshew II has not shown anything close to what he was the past two years. When Minshew is in the game this preseason he looks like he is "looking over his shoulder" at Trevor Lawrence. Almost like that scene from Jurassic Park when the T-rex is chasing the Jeep, except Trevor is the T-rex. Minshew has not moved the offense well against the backups just the same as Trevor not moving it against the starters. That only means one thing, and that is the offensive line is god awful. The worse thing for Minshew is that CJ Beathard is moving the third team with ease out on the field and almost won the game on Monday night against the Saints. I do not want to keep pouring it on the Jaguars but it gets worse, their first round pick Travis Etienne went down with an ankle injury that will most likely end his season before it ever got started. The Jags didn't need a runningback in the draft with the emergence of James Robinson, an undrafted free agent last season. That was arguably the only position they didn't need.
